Importing Historical and Constant Data

Historical data represents information recorded for future reference and report generation. Examples of historical data include year-to-date sales, date of last payment, quantity sold during the prior year, and highest balance.

Constant data represents information that generally does not change. Examples of constant data include name, address, contact name, and phone number.

Most information stored in master files, such as the Customer master file, consists of constant or historical data. This is also true of code files, such as the Terms Code, Sales Code, and Salesperson files.

You can import historical and constant data directly to the destination file. You only need to determine which data file contains the information you want to import.

For files that contain a small number of records (such as Division Maintenance or Terms Code Maintenance), it may be more efficient to enter the data manually instead of importing it.
