Quiet Space Requirements

Quiet space, also known as quiet zone or clear area, is blank, white space between bar codes printed on the same line, or blank space between a bar code and the edge of the label. It is quiet in terms of the scanning signal produced. Quiet space is required to make the bar code readable. Allow at least one-quarter inch of quiet space at each end of a bar code.

For more information, see Bar Code Printing.
