dBASE III PLUS Files

The Visual Integrator module can directly import dBASE III PLUS data files, which are normally created with a .DBF extension. Because many database products can save data in a dBASE III PLUS compatible format, this feature allows you to import information from those products as well.

The Visual Integrator module identifies each data field in a dBASE III PLUS file by column number. The first field in a record is referred to as column 1, the second field as column 2, etc. This information is assigned to the Column field for each data item using the Import Field Properties feature (on the Import Job Maintenance Data tab). Because each field is stored separately, it is not necessary to specify the length of each field when importing from a dBASE III PLUS file. You can, however, make references to a portion of a string-type data field by specifying the starting position and length of the data to be imported.

For more information, see Import File Types.
