Scheduling Minimum Time Periods

When operation information is entered for a work order, the total time required to complete an operation is calculated for each step. This time is displayed in the Extended Time field on the Work Order Entry Operations tab. When small quantities of products are processed, the calculated time required to complete an operation may be unrealistically short.

A pressing machine is capable of pressing 500 sheets of aluminum plates per hour. It should take only 0.6 minutes to press five sheets; however, the pressing machine may require three minutes to process a batch of 25 sheets at a time, thus requiring a minimum of three minutes.

Use the Min Scheduling Time Period field in the Work Center Maintenance window to specify the minimum amount of time, in minutes, that you want to schedule for any operation at a work center. This field is used for scheduling purposes only.
