Create a Source Journal

You can create and maintain source journals in Source Journal Maintenance. You can also create source journals on the fly from selected General Ledger data entry windows.

Use one, all, or a combination of the following methods to create a source journal:

 

To create or maintain a source journal in Source Journal Maintenance

  1. Select General Ledger Setup menu > Source Journal Maintenance.

  2. In the Source Journal field, enter a new source journal code or select an existing source journal to maintain. For more information, see Source Journal Maintenance - Fields.

  3. Enter the description for the source journal.

  4. In the Journal Type field, select the source journal type.

Note  If Non-Financial is selected in the Journal Type field, the Next Register field is not available.

  1. Enter information in the Next Journal and Next Register fields.

Note  If you enter a value that already exists in the Next Journal or Next Register fields, duplicate entries may result.

  1. Click Accept.

The source journal is created or maintained.

 

To create a source journal on the fly

  1. Select on of the following:

  2. General Ledger Main menu > General Journal Entry

  3. General Ledger Main menu > Recurring Journal Entry

  4. General Ledger Main menu > Transaction Journal Entry.

  1. In the Source Journal field, enter a new source journal. For more information, see General Journal Entry - Fields, Recurring Journal Entry - Fields, or Transaction Journal Entry - Fields.

  2. A message appears asking if this is a new Source Journal. Click Yes.

  3. In the Source Journal Maintenance (On-the-Fly) window, in the Copy From field, select an existing source journal to copy information from. For more information, see Source Journal Maintenance (On-the-Fly) - Fields.

  4. Enter the description for the source journal.

  5. In the Journal Type field, select the source journal type.

Note  If Non-Financial is selected in the Journal Type field, the Next Register field is not available.

  1. Enter information in the Next Journal and Next Register fields.

Note  If you enter a value that already exists in the Next Journal or Next Register fields, duplicate entries may result.

  1. Click Accept.

The source journal is created on the fly.
