Processing Data Files

You can use the Visual Integrator module to process information within a data file by importing data from other data files, or even from the same data file. You can use this feature to change the value of a data field for a large number of records.

As a convention, data files contain all string-type data fields in the first variable (column) of a record, followed by all numeric data fields in separate columns. The last variable (column) of each record can be used by independent Master Developers to store information required for their custom applications. To properly import data from data files, you must obtain the Data File Definition information available by clicking the File Layout and Program Information link on the Desktop's Resources page.

Warning This process requires a thorough understanding of the data files and their impact on related applications. Import functions should only be designed under the direction of a Sage business partner.
