Expand/Collapse item  Overview

You can enter weekly or monthly projections for each inventory item by warehouse, and by customer. These projections are used during the MRP Generation process so that the MRP Report can advise you of which items to make or purchase in order to meet demands for raw materials or finished goods.

Expand/Collapse item  Before You Begin

  • Generate MRP calculations before entering projected demands. In MRP Generation, make sure the dates you enter for the sales order cutoff and the projected demands start and cutoff dates overlap. If they overlap, the system considers the existing sales order quantities as part of the projected demand when maintaining monthly projections only. For more information, see Generate MRP Calculations.

  • Before current projected demands information is entered, MRP year-end processing must be performed following Inventory Management year-end processing.

To enter projected demands

  1. Select Material Requirements Planning Main menu > Maintain Projected Demands.

  2. In the Item Number field, enter the item number to enter a projection for. For more information, see Maintain Projected Demands - Fields.

  3. Enter the customer and/or warehouse for the projection. In the Time Detail field, select whether this will be a weekly projection or monthly projection.

Note The sales order quantities are taken into consideration as part of the corresponding projected quantities when maintaining monthly projections. Sales order quantities are not taken into consideration as part of the corresponding projected quantities when maintaining weekly projections.

  1. Select a period start date from the list box that appears at the bottom of the window. In the Qty Proj Next Year field, enter the projected sales figure for this date next year.

  2. When you have finished entering projections, click Accept.

Information is displayed for each week or month starting with the accounting date. Information is displayed over 24 months, which includes the quantity sold last year, the quantity sold this year, the quantity projected this year, and the quantity projected next year. The years shown represent the calendar year for the fiscal or calendar year selected in Inventory Management Options, and the last calendar year.

Expand/Collapse item  Example - Selecting Monthly or Weekly Projections

For monthly projections, sales order quantities are taken into consideration as part of the projected quantities. For weekly projections, sales order quantities are not taken into consideration. For example, if a projected demand of 50 is entered for an item, and there are 15 on sales order, the system considers the 15 on the sales order as part of the projected demand for that month; the MRP Report still recommends making/buying 50 of the item for that month.
