Export User-Defined Field (UDF) Validation List

A validation list is a list of acceptable values that can be entered at a field. Use this procedure to create and export a multi-line UDF validation list to the key fields in user-defined tables (UDTs).

UDTs must already be created. The UDT key field must have the same length as the multi-line UDF. For more information, see Create a User-Defined Table (UDT).

 

To export a UDF validation list

  1. Select Custom Office Main menu > User-Defined Field and Table Maintenance.

  2. Select the table to create the UDF in, and click the Edit Fields button.

  3. In the User-Defined Fields window, click the Add button. For more information, see User-Defined Fields - Fields.

  4. In the Add Field window:

  1. Enter the field name and description. For more information, see Add Field - Fields.

  2. Select Manual Entry and click OK. A second Add Field window appears.

  1. In the second Add Field window:

  1. In the Control Type field, select Multi-Line. For more information, see Add Field/Edit Field - Fields.

  2. In the Data Type field, select String.

  3. In the Maximum Length field, type the maximum field length. The maximum length must be the same as the UDT key field length.

  4. Click the Validation tab, and select List.

  5. In the List field, type the validation list to create and export.

  6. Select User-Defined Table, and click OK.

  1. When you are prompted to export the validation list, click Yes.

  2. In the User-Defined Fields window, click OK.

  3. When you are prompted to update the data dictionary and UDF data files, click OK.

The validation list is exported to the UDTs and the UDF is created.
