Warning  Do not hide required program controls. Problems may occur when hiding or disabling a required control. A required control is a control on a panel that must be accessible to perform a function that is required for data integrity.

Use the following guidelines to determine whether a control is required or not:

  • Do not disable or hide the key fields for a panel (for example, Vendor No. in Vendor Maintenance, or Terms Code in Terms Code Maintenance).

  • Do not disable or hide the Accept button. Also, do not disable or hide the Delete button, unless you specifically want to disable the Delete function.

  • Do not disable or hide a control that is required for the normal operation of the program. For example, disabling the Amount field in the Accounts Payable Invoice Data Entry window would make that program nonfunctional.

To hide an item

  1. Select Custom Office Main menu > Customizer Selection.

  2. Select the panel to hide items for. For more information, see Select a Panel.

  3. Select the field to hide and right-click. The corresponding Definition dialog box appears.

Warning  Be careful when customizing fields on the Lines tab of a data entry window. Because of the availability of different types of lines, such as comment lines or account number lines, the tab stops may not function as expected.

  1. On the Options tab, select the Hidden check box and click OK.

Note  Hiding a field does not hide the field's label. Repeat the same steps to hide field labels.

The item is hidden. Verify the behavior of the program after making custom changes. Many programs have special logic to enable or disable controls based on an option or data entry. This logic may interfere with your customizations.
