Production Management Integration with Bill of Materials

An advantage of integrating the Bill of Materials module with Production Management is the ability to explode sub-assemblies, phantom bills, and option bills into a single work ticket.

When the modules are integrated, you can create a work ticket template and assign it to a bill, and then assign the components of the bill to the appropriate steps in the template.

On the Header tab in Bill of Materials Maintenance, enter the number of the work ticket template and revision that has the steps required to produce the bill item. On the Lines tab, you can assign the component items to specific steps from the template.

Note The template number does not have to match the bill number. The same template can be used for multiple bills. If you converted Work Order data to Production Management, the template number is automatically entered in Bill of Materials based on the routing that was previously assigned to the bill.

Option Bills

If you're working with option bills, both the top-level bill and the option bills can use the same template. Alternately, you can assign a different template in the Option Bill Maintenance window. This window also has a Step Number field. This references the step in the parent bill for which the option bill components are exploded.

Phantom Bills

Because phantom bills are not true inventory items, their components are always exploded into the parent item’s work ticket, even if the Explode Subassemblies check box is cleared in Work Ticket Entry. As with standard bills, a template number and revision number can be assigned to a phantom bill. Components for the bill can then be assigned to a specific step within that template.
