Material and labor transactions are automatically issued to work tickets when using the automatic or backflush issue methods. Regardless of the issue method specified for a work ticket, you can manually enter material and labor transactions in Work Ticket Transaction Entry after the work ticket is released.
The auto issue method allows for more accurate planning for material and labor usage so that shortages can be discovered and accounted for early in the manufacturing process.
When you enter a release transaction in Work Ticket Transaction Entry for a work ticket using this issue method, the system generates material, labor, and outside processing transactions automatically for the work ticket after the Work Ticket Transaction Journal update is completed. You can make changes to the transaction prior to updating the journal and the data to the permanent files.
To enable the auto issue method
-
Select Production Management > Setup > Production Management Options.
-
Select one or both of the following check boxes:
-
Allow Auto Issue Labor
-
Allow Auto Issue Materials
-
Then you can select Auto Issue in the Labor Issue Method field and the Materials Issue Method field in the following tasks:
-
Work Ticket Class Maintenance
-
Work Ticket Entry
The backflush issue method is typically used by companies with short processing time or that are set up as a production line. This method is also useful for companies that issue work tickets for large quantities of finished goods but complete them over a period of time and pull components from floor stock.
By backflushing material, labor, and outside processing transactions at the time of completion, the inventory valuation is more accurately reflected than if these transactions were issued automatically at the time of release.
Use the backflush issue method when material, labor, and outside processing transactions are to be automatically generated when entering a completion transaction. When you record a work ticket completion transaction for a work ticket using this issue method, the system generates material, labor, and outside processing transactions for the work ticket automatically. The quantity of material issued depends on the quantity of the finished product completed. You can make changes to the transaction prior to updating the journal and the data to the permanent files.
To enable the backflush issue method
-
Select Production Management > Setup > Production Management Options.
-
Select one or both of the following check boxes:
-
Allow Backflush Labor
-
Allow Backflush Materials
-
Then you can select Backflush in the Labor Issue Method field and the Materials Issue Method field in the following tasks:
-
Work Ticket Class Maintenance
-
Work Ticket Entry
The manual issue method allows you to accurately record material, labor, and outside processing transactions issued for work tickets as they are used in the manufacturing process. The increase in the amount of manual data entry required for this method is offset by the accuracy of inventory valuation and quantity in stock.
Use the manual issue method to issue individual material, labor, and outside processing transactions to the work ticket.
Manual is the default selection in the Labor Issue Method field and the Materials Issue field in the following tasks:
-
Work Ticket Class Maintenance
-
Work Ticket Entry
