Select Production Management Setup menu > Work Center Maintenance.
Use Work Center Maintenance to define work centers. Work centers are specific production facilities consisting of one or more persons or machines, and they are considered a single unit for capacity planning and detailed work assignments.
You must set up at least one work center. You cannot delete a work center that is being used in Activity Code Maintenance, Work Ticket Template Maintenance, or Work Ticket Entry on the Steps tab, or one that has transaction history.
Note Closures defined for specific work centers in Work Center Maintenance override the closures entered on the Schedule tab in Production Management Options. If no closures are defined for the work center, then closures entered on the Schedule tab in Production Management Options will be used for the scheduling process.

Enter the work center code, or click the Lookup button to view all work centers. Click the Memo button to view, create, or maintain memos. The Memo button is available only if the appropriate memo type has been set up in Memo Manager Maintenance for this task. If a memo already exists for this task, the Memo button appears yellow. If a memo does not exist, the Memo button appears blue. For more information, see Memo Maintenance.
Enter a description for the work center.
Enter the number of hours that an average job waits in the work center's queue before work is actually performed. The queue time should also indicate the time required to move the partially completed items to the current work center after the previous activity has been completed.
Enter the percentage of efficiency for the work center, considering any necessary adjustments for changes in personnel or equipment. This percentage is used to calculate the amount of time to schedule an activity.
This percentage should be maintained regularly to reflect the current status of the work center. Typically, the work center efficiency percentage should be at 100 percent to reflect the normal productivity of the work center. If a work center normally has two machines in operation and one of the machines is down for maintenance, the efficiency for the work center is reduced to 50 percent.
Enter the number of workers or machines that will be used at this work center.
The number you enter in this field depends on how you want to express the "available hours" information and how the production rates are to be expressed for the activity code for this work center. To express the production rates for activity codes in terms of the work center as a whole, enter 1 in this field. To express the production rates on a per-machine basis, enter the number of machines to use.
Enter the minimum number of minutes expected for the completion of any activity at this work center. This time period is used to calculate schedules in Work Ticket Entry. It prevents scheduling of unrealistically short time periods when small quantities of components are processed.
Enter the number of hours that this work center is available for operation for each day of the week. Your entries are used for scheduling in Work Ticket Entry. If no hours are entered for any day, a default of 8 hours for each day is used for Monday through Friday. For Saturday and Sunday, 0 (zero) hours are used.
Note The number of hours entered must be consistent with the calculation method you selected for activity codes for this work center.
For example, if you define the production rate for this work center on the basis of each machine in Activity Code Maintenance and there are 4 machines available 8 hours per day, you would enter 32 available hours for each day Monday through Friday, and enter 4 in the Number of Workers or Machines field. But if you define the production rate based on all 4 machines as a single unit, you would enter 8 available hours for each day Monday through Friday, and enter 1 in the Number of Workers or Machines field.
Production rates are defined by hours per activity, activities per hour, and fixed time in Activity Code Maintenance.
Enter the starting date that the work center will be closed (for example, for a statutory holiday).
Enter the ending date that the work center will be closed (for example, for a statutory holiday).
Enter the description for the work center closure.
Select the check box if the work center will be closed for the dates entered. Clear the check box if the work center will be open for the dates entered.
