Tax Table Maintenance

State

To access the federal tax records, type Fed at the State field. To access a state tax record, enter the applicable state tax code, or click the Lookup button to list all state tax codes. If you are adding a new code, enter a description of the tax jurisdiction. Enter EIC in the State field to access EIC tables.

 

Local

Enter the local tax code, or click the Lookup button to list all local tax codes. If you are adding a new code, select the eFiling and Reporting tax code description.

 

Company's Tax Id Number

Enter the tax ID number assigned to your company by the applicable jurisdiction (federal, state, or local). Applicable employee and employer payroll taxes vary from federal, state, and local tax jurisdictions.

Note You must enter the exact tax ID number (including dashes, if applicable) as assigned by your applicable jurisdiction.

 

Accrual Account

Enter the general ledger accrual account number for the tax. Click the Lookup button to list all general ledger accounts.

If the account number is longer than the field, use the left and right arrow keys to view the entire account number.

Accounts can be created in this field if the appropriate settings are defined in the Auto Create when all Segments are Valid field in the General Ledger Options window. For more information, see General Ledger Options.

 

Rate

Enter the rate by which taxable wages are multiplied to calculate the tax. For federal and state records, the current Rate, Limit, and Limit Type for correct tax calculations appear. Do not change these values unless the tax law changes.

Limit

Enter the limit for this tax. The limit represents the maximum taxable wages that are subject to this tax. For federal and state records, the current rate, limit, and limit type for correct tax calculations appear.

Limit Type

Select the tax limit type.

For federal and state records, the current rate, limit, and limit type for correct tax calculations appear.

Warning Do not change this field unless the tax law changes.

 

Personal Exemptions Allowed

Select this check box if this tax jurisdiction allows personal exemptions. Clear this check box if this tax jurisdiction does not allow personal exemptions.

 

Personal Exempts Exceed Dependent Exempts

Select this check box if an employee can declare more personal exemptions than dependent exemptions. Clear this check box if an employee cannot declare more personal exemptions. This field is available only if the Personal Exemptions Allowed check box is selected.

 

Exclude this Table from Tax Update

Select this check box if you do not want the tax code updated by the Tax Table Update process. Clear this check box if you do want the tax code updated. This field is available only if you did not enter a local tax code in the Local field.

 

Locality Tax Type Code

Select the appropriate locality tax type code to report for local taxable wages and local income tax withheld amounts.

Note  This field appears only if a local tax code is entered in the Local field.

 

Round Withholding Tax Amount

Select this check box to round the withholding tax amount to the nearest dollar after all tax calculation steps and overrides have been applied. Clear this check box to compute the withholding tax amount without rounding the amount to the nearest dollar.
