Create a Standard Journal

You can create a standard journal to use as a template for future journal entries. Standard journals are used for entries that repeatedly use the same account numbers but different amounts. You can create standard journals from existing journal entries and existing standard journals. Multiple standard journals can be saved for each source journal code.

 

To create a standard journal

  1. Select General Ledger Main menu > General Journal Entry.

  2. In the Source Journal field, select a source journal code. For more information, see General Journal Entry - Fields.

  3. To create a standard journal from an existing standard journal, click Copy Standard. For more information, see Copy a Standard Journal.

  4. In the Entry Number field, enter a number that identifies the journal, or click the Next Number button.

  5. On the Lines tab, enter the necessary fields.

  6. Click Save Standard. In the Save Standard Journal window, the source journal entered in the General Journal Entry window appears in the Source Journal field. For more information, see Save Standard Journal - Fields.

  7. Enter information in the Standard Journal and Description fields.

  8. Select the Save Comments check box to save comments entered on the General Journal Entry Header and Lines tabs and click Accept.

  9. To print a list of standard journals, in the General Journal Entry window, click Standard Listing. For more information, see Standard Journal Listing.

A standard journal is created and saved for a source journal, and can be used as a template for future journal entries.

Note If you do not want to post the journal entry after saving the standard journal, in the General Journal Entry window, click Cancel.
