Cost Code Size

Cost codes provide a means of categorizing various costs incurred for a job. Cost codes contain from three to nine alphanumeric characters that can be divided into up to three segments to accommodate individual reporting requirements. Segments are used to define cost categories (phase, subphase, item, etc.). If more than one segment is used, Seg 1 represents the phase number. The default cost code is three segments of three characters each (###-###-###). Also, each cost code can be assigned up to 12 cost types, allowing for an unlimited number of cost categories.

Note You can add segments, if necessary, after initial setup. To make data entry easier, use only as many segments and characters as necessary to define your cost codes.
