Select Bill of Materials Main menu > Bill of Materials Maintenance. In the Bill of Materials Maintenance window, at the More drop-down button, click Option Bills.
Note To define options for a bill, the Bill Has Options check box must be selected in the Bill of Materials Maintenance window.

Use Option Bill Maintenance to define unique configurations of a bill's component items. For example, a single bill can have several defined options to accommodate various configurations of the finished product. Defining option bills eliminates the need to define a separate bill for each possible configuration. In some companies, options are often referred to as features or accessories. The Bill of Materials module refers to all configuration choices as bill options.
Only bills representing finished products should be configured with options. Bills representing subassemblies should not be configured with options because the system cannot determine which options’ configuration to use when the bill is used as a component of another bill. Only the base bill can be used as a subassembly component.
Each option changes a bill's makeup; therefore, the cost and price of the finished product should reflect the specific configuration used to manufacture the product. For a stocked inventory item that may be configured with options, use the Serial Number or Lot Number Costing method. Each serial item or batch of lot items is tracked with the actual cost required to produce the specific item.
Option Bill Maintenance allows you to assign an option price for each defined option code. This option price is used to calculate the price of a sales kit item, or a standard bill with options.
