Restocking charges are administrative charges that may be charged to the customer to return merchandise. These charges appear on credit memos to offset the credit amount issued to the customer.

The restocking method and fee used are based on the values in the Restocking Charge Method and Restocking Amount/Rate fields in the Item Maintenance window and the miscellaneous charge code selected in the Restocking Charge Code field in the RMA Options window.

 

To set up restocking charges

  1. Select Sales Order Setup menu > Miscellaneous Item Maintenance.

  2. Create a miscellaneous charge code for restocking charges (for example, RESTCK). For more information, see Miscellaneous Item Maintenance – Fields.

  3. Select Return Merchandise Authorization Setup menu > RMA Options.

  4. Click the Main tab and then select the Calculate Restocking Charges check box. For more information, see RMA Options – Fields.

  5. At the Restocking Charge Code field, enter the default charge code to calculate the restocking charges (this is required when the Calculate Restocking Charges check box is selected).

Note A new miscellaneous charge code can be added on the fly in the Restocking Charge Code field. The Miscellaneous Item Maintenance (On the Fly) window appears; some nonessential fields are omitted to speed data entry. Access Miscellaneous Item Maintenance at a later time to complete the remaining entries for a new code. For more information, see Miscellaneous Item Maintenance (On the Fly).

  1. To change restocking charges that are automatically calculated in RMA Receipts Entry and RMA Entry, select the Allow Changes to Restocking Charges check box. Restocking charges can be overridden only with the proper security setup.

  2. To consolidate restocking charges during the generate transactions process, select the Consolidate Restocking Charges During Generation check box.

  3. Click Accept.

Restocking charges are set up.
