Expand/Collapse item  Overview

To return a damaged item for scrap, in the RMA Entry or RMA Receipts Entry window, in the Item Action field, select Scrap. You can designate a default scrap warehouse where scrap items are returned. When items are returned for scrap, a default scrap account is debited during the Sales Order Sales Journal update.

To set up scrap item processing

  1. Set up a scrap warehouse. For more information, see Use Default Warehouses for Return, Scrap, and Repair Items.

  2. Select General Ledger Main menu > Account Maintenance.

  3. Enter information for the Scrap account and click Accept. For more information, see Account Maintenance - Fields.

  4. Select Return Merchandise Authorization Setup menu > RMA Options.

  5. At the Scrap Account field, enter the Scrap account number. For more information, see RMA Options - Fields.

  6. At the Scrap field, enter the default scrap warehouse. Click Accept.

  7. Select Inventory Management Setup menu > Product Line Maintenance.

  8. Select a product line and click the Accounts tab.

  9. At the RMA Scrap field, enter the Scrap account number. Click Accept.

Note You can use a single scrap account for the entire scrap inventory, or you can create and assign separate accounts for different product lines.

When an inventory item is returned for scrap, the default scrap account specified in the Inventory Management Product Line Maintenance window is debited when the Sales Order Sales Journal is updated. If the item returned for scrap is a special or miscellaneous item, the default scrap account specified in the RMA Options window is debited.

Note The Return Merchandise Authorization module does not affect the general ledger. All general ledger postings are handled in the Sales Order and Purchase Order programs.
