Expand/Collapse item  Overview

You can create new work orders, as needed, in response to open sales orders, inventory reorder information, projections, or manual work order changes. The Auto Generate Work Orders task uses information from MRP Generation to create the work order and then increase a firm-planned work order's planned quantity, if the demand from the sales order is increased.

Auto Generate Work Orders updates all firm-planned work orders based on the appropriate lead times and changes in the number of items and with the default Cost Completion Method in Work Order Setup Options. MRP assumes infinite capacity in the work centers.

  • Every active bill of material must have an attached routing, or a work order cannot be generated for that item.

  • To avoid making work orders too far into the future, set the demand sources and cutoff dates in MRP Generation to be just slightly more than normal lead/build time. If the Pull In Work Orders or Push Out Work Orders check box is selected in the MRP Options window, when the MRP Generation process runs, work orders completed to inventory, and sales orders are rescheduled, if necessary.

  • If changes have been made in MRP Options or in other modules integrated with MRP, or if data has been added since the last MRP Generation, MRP Generation should be performed before using Auto Generate Work Orders.
