The Production Management module works with Inventory Management to record the use of items used in and made for work tickets. Because the Production Management module is designed to work with Inventory Management, there is no option to enable the integration in Production Management Options.
When the Production Management module is set up, the following options are available in the Procurement Method field in Item Maintenance:
- Make to Stock identifies items that are produced as finished goods or subassemblies.
- Buy to Stock identifies a raw material that is stocked in inventory and may be included on a work ticket.
- Buy to Order identifies raw materials that are not typically stocked in inventory.
You'll also see the following fields in the Quantities list:
- On W/T shows the quantity of the item being produced as the parent item on work tickets that have Released as the status.
- Req for W/T shows the quantity being consumed as a raw material on work tickets that have Released as the status. If the Include Open W/T Materials as Inventory Demand check box is selected in Production Management Options, then work tickets with an Open status are also reflected in this quantity. The quantity is reduced as material is issued to a work ticket.
The selection in the Include in Quantity Available field in Inventory Management Options determines how work ticket quantities affect the item's available quantity.
Work ticket material transactions are shown on the Transactions tab in Item Maintenance and Item Inquiry. The types for Production Management transactions begin with a J.
If the Dynamic Materials check box is selected in Production Management Options, transactions entered on work tickets are recorded as soon as you click the Accept button in Work Ticket Entry. For more information on how Dynamic Materials works, see the field help for the check box or Dynamic Material Issues.
Material transactions recorded in Work Ticket Transaction Entry are not reflected in Item Maintenance until the Transaction Register is updated.
Note In addition to inventory items, you can use miscellaneous items created in the Common Information module. To use a miscellaneous item in a work ticket, you must set it up and assign it a general ledger inventory account. To also use the item in purchase orders, you must select the Allow Use in Purchase Order check box and assign it a purchases account.
