You can add and remove categories to and from .order and .store category trees. Top categories are displayed in the tree view by default and cannot be added or removed. To remove a top category, you must delete it in Category Maintenance.

You can create as many branches (subcategories) to the category tree as desired. You cannot, however, add a category to a branch that already contains the same category at a higher level. Such a condition creates an infinite recursion (loop) because the branch continues indefinitely.

For example, you cannot add NEWPRINTERS to LAZPRT (Laser Printer) if LAZPRT is already defined as a branch (subcategory) to NEWPRINTERS. When a recursive situation is detected, a warning message appears.

  • Categories must be defined in Category Maintenance before being added to a category tree. For more information, see Set Up Categories.

 

To add or remove a category

  1. Select eBusiness Manager Setup menu > Category Tree Maintenance.

  2. Select whether you are adding a category to the .order category tree or the .store category tree. For more information, see Category Tree Maintenance - Fields.

  3. To add a category under a top category, first select a top category in the left list box, then select a category in the right list box. To select multiple categories in the right list box, press the CTRL key while selecting one or more categories. You can also select a group of categories by selecting one category, pressing SHIFT, and then selecting another category. All categories between the first and the second selection are selected.  

  1. To add the selected category or categories to the tree, click the Add Category to Tree button. You can also double-click a category in the right list box to add that category to the category tree. To add all categories in the right list box to the selected category in the left list box, click the Add All Categories to Tree button.

Note When you add a category from the right list box to a top category in the left list box, that category is still displayed in the right list box.

  1. When a category is added to a top category, a new branch is added under the top category and a "+" symbol appears next to the top category. To expand the branch to list all subcategories, click the "+" symbol. To view all subcategories, click Expand All. To view only the top categories, click Collapse All.

  2. Add subcategories to categories as appropriate.

  3. To add a new category on the fly, click Category to open the Category Maintenance window. Categories saved in Category Maintenance automatically appear in Category Tree Maintenance. For more information, see Category Maintenance - Fields.

  4. To remove a category from the left list box, select the category to remove and click the Remove Category from Tree button. Any subcategories under the category area also removed. To remove all categories except top categories from the left list box, click the Remove All Categories from Tree button.

  5. Click Apply to save the current tree structure. When you are finished, click Accept.

The category tree is modified with your changes.
