Expand/Collapse item  Overview

Warehouse groups allow you to define one or more groups that are used by the MRP Generation process to consolidate recommendations for material acquisitions. For a warehouse to be considered by the system, it must belong to a group, even if you have only one warehouse.

For a transfer warehouse, the system looks at the demands for that warehouse. If it is unable to meet the demands from within the warehouse, the system uses the source warehouse group for items.

To set up warehouse groups

  1. Select MRP Setup menu > Warehouse Grouping Maintenance.

  2. In the Warehouse Group and Warehouse Type fields, enter the warehouse group and type. For more information, see Warehouse Grouping Maintenance - Fields.

  3. In the Warehouse Code field, select a warehouse.

  4. If you select Transfer in the Warehouse Type field, enter the source group in the Source Group field.

Note A warehouse group defined as a warehouse type transfer can only have source groups that are standard warehouse types.

  1. Click Accept.

  2. Repeat steps 2-4 to add additional warehouses to the group. An unlimited number of warehouses can be assigned to the group; however, Auto Generate Work Orders is limited to one warehouse code for the Parent item and one warehouse for components.

  3. To print the Warehouse Group Listing, click the Printer button.

The warehouse group is set up.

If you did not want any of the items in the rework warehouse to be considered as "on hand" for MRP Generation, you would not establish a group code for this warehouse in Warehouse Grouping Maintenance.

In this example, two separate MRP Reports are generated: one for group AAA and another for group BBB. The material requirements for each report would be determined only from the warehouses that belong to each group.

In this example, two separate MRP Reports are generated: one for group AAA and another for group BBB. The finished goods warehouse, however, will have its demands met by having the MRP Report suggest transferring items from the warehouse in source group AAA.
