Expand/Collapse item  Overview

You can create journal entries closely related to a single purpose that do not need to be entered into the system on a regular basis (for example, a one-time journal entry). You can also create journal entries by entering the applicable information, or by copying information from existing standard journals, posted journals, or allocation amounts. In addition, you can enter a journal entry to be reversed at a later date.

To create a General Journal entry

  1. Select General Ledger Main menu > General Journal Entry.

  2. If Batch Processing is enabled for General Journal Entry, the General Journal Entry Batch window appears. You can create a new batch or select an existing batch, then click Accept. For more information, see Batch Entry.

  3. In the Source Journal field, enter a source journal code. For more information, see General Journal Entry - Fields.

  4. To create a journal entry using a standard journal, posted journal, or manual allocation, perform one of the following:

  1. In the Entry Number field, enter the number that identifies this journal. Enter information in the applicable fields on the Header tab.

  2. Click the Lines tab and enter line item information for the journal entry.

  3. To save the current general journal entry as a standard journal for future use, enter the appropriate fields and click Save Standard. For more information, see Create a Standard Journal.

  4. Click Accept.

A journal entry is saved. To post general journal entries, click the Print button and print the General Journal. For more information, see General Journal.
